DESCRIPTION:MEMBRA are delighted to be participating at Timberfest\, which is hosted at one of our partner organisation’s ‘The National Forest‘. \nTimberfest is July 7-9 2023: https://timberfestival.org.uk/ \nMEMBRA will premier ‘Ring of Truth’\, which is a creative collaboration led by Lucy Neal from the Walking Forest. \n‘Please be upstanding – the court is about to commence.’ \nAn old tree of the forest will shortly give evidence. But who’s in the dock? And what’s the crime? Three scientists prepare their case: tree ring samples tell the story of increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. What harm has come to the forest? Join the proceedings; be judge and jury. Decide for yourself what wrong’s been committed by whom and what can be done to put things right. DESCRIPTION:Future Treescapes 2022\nGrowing the evidence for treescape expansion\n9:30am – 4:30pm\, 22 June 2022\nFREE EVENT\nFuture Treescapes 22 is the first conference being led by the Future of UK Treescapes Programme. \nComing years are likely to see one of the most dramatic increases in tree cover and forest planting in the UK for generations. Government commitments to net-zero and nature recovery mean that significant investment in tree planting and woodland expansion will have profound impacts on our country’s landscape\, biodiversity and culture. However\, questions remain about how best to do this in order to gain the most benefit – not only for the environment but for society as a whole. \nThe Future of UK Treescapes is a £14.5 million programme of research and activities that will help inform the critical decisions that will be made in coming years around the ‘what\, where\, how and who’ of treescape expansion. DESCRIPTION:The first MEMBRA Creative lab will take place April 25-27 led by The Walking Forest artist group. \nThis event will take place on at secluded Moor Barton on Dartmoor and brings together MEMBRA members to develop and take forward the ideas of the project. \nThis will be a ‘no-phones’ immersive event in which MEMBRA participants will become comfortable in nature amongst the trees and explore how collaborations might develop. The outcomes of this Creative Lab will drive the future activities of MEMBRA.

DESCRIPTION:Learn about the UK Treescapes Programme and hear firsthand from those making decisions about our trees and planting our new forests\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nThe UK Treescapes Launch is a unique half-day event being led by the Ambassadors of the Future of UK Treescapes Programme\, to ignite conversations around our woods\, forests and treescapes. \nOur trees help us tackle climate change\, support animal life and benefit our well-being and culture. Yet our trees are also under threat from climate change\, disease and demand for land. And unfortunately\, this has led to decades of loss in animal and plant life\, environmental quality and cultural heritage. \nIn the light of COP26’s promise to end deforestation by 2030\, and the UK Government’s plans to drastically increase tree cover in the UK over the coming years\, we must urgently start answering how we will achieve these goals. \nOur programme is helping find answers to many of these questions\, but we must do so with a focus on supporting those who will be making the decisions and planting our new forests\, and those who are most affected by the changes \nWhat will happen on the day?\nThis event will: \n\nIntroduce UK Treescapes’ current portfolio of projects\nProvide a platform for the programme’s stakeholders to discuss their priorities and hopes for the future\nAnd bring together all those with an interest in the programme\, from researchers to artists\, policymakers to community groups.\n\nWho should attend?\nThis conference is for anyone carrying out research on forestry\, woodlands and trees; for those managing woods and trees; and for those interested in being part of the dynamic community across the UK interested in protecting and regenerating our treescapes. \nPlease note this event will be hosted online and may be recorded and made available for those who cannot attend.
